Castle on the rise
Kaminoyama Castle stands on raised ground near the town centre, and the streets around it still follow the logic of an old castle town, curving to fit the slope.

Kaminoyama Map Poster & Print
Kaminoyama lies just south of Yamagata city, in a basin framed by mountains, with the Zao range rising to the east. For centuries it combined three roles: a castle town, a post station on the Ushu Kaido road, and a hot-spring resort. All three still shape the streets you see on a map.
The reconstructed Kaminoyama Castle sits on a rise near the centre, and the old town spreads around it, with the former highway threading through as a long, slightly winding spine. Onsen inns cluster in several districts, and orchards and rice fields fill the flatter land beyond the edge of town.
The poet Saitō Mokichi, one of the major figures of modern tanka, was born here, and the town keeps a museum in his memory. A Kaminoyama map poster brings together the castle, the old road and the ring of hills in one quiet, balanced composition.

The Ushu Kaido
The historic post road runs through Kaminoyama as a long, narrow thread, lined by the older part of town and easy to trace across the map from north to south.
Mountain basin
Hills close in on several sides, and the town fills the valley floor between them, so the map shows a settled centre gradually loosening into orchards, fields and wooded slopes.
