Kawasi Map Poster & Print
Kawasi lies on Obi Island in the Indonesian province of North Maluku, south of Halmahera. On a map it appears as a narrow coastal settlement: a strip of streets and buildings following the shoreline, backed by steep, forested ground. The sea defines one side of the picture entirely, and the land rises quickly on the other.
In recent years the area has become known for nickel mining and processing, which has brought new roads, port facilities and industrial sites to this stretch of coast. As a result, the map combines the loose, informal lines of a village with larger, more regular shapes where new infrastructure has been built.
A Kawasi map poster is a portrait of a place at the edge of the sea and on the edge of change. The simple black-and-white treatment draws out the curve of the coast, the few roads that run inland and the way everything hugs the narrow flat land beside the water.

Coastal strip
Streets and houses keep to the narrow flat land near the sea, forming a long, thin settlement rather than a compact centre.
New infrastructure
Roads, port facilities and industrial sites linked to nickel processing add larger, straight-edged forms that contrast with the older village pattern along the coast.

අර්ථයක් ඇති සිතියමක්
For those who have lived or worked on Obi Island, Kawasi can be hard to explain to people at home. A map poster shows it simply: the coast, the hills and the small grid of streets in between.
