Kayyerkan Map Poster & Print
Kayyerkan, often spelled Kayerkan, lies in the far north of Krasnoyarsk Krai, part of the Norilsk urban area above the Arctic Circle. From above, it is a tightly planned Soviet-era town: rows of apartment blocks arranged in orderly microdistricts, surrounded by open tundra, industrial sites and the roads and rail lines that connect it with Norilsk.
The town was built to serve mining in the region, and the landscape around it shows the marks of that work: pits, spoil areas, pipelines and industrial roads. Construction on permafrost means buildings are raised on piles, and the settlement is kept compact, which gives the map a clear, contained outline.
A Kayyerkan map poster presents an unusual subject: a dense, geometric town in an empty, harsh landscape. Lakes and streams scattered across the tundra add loose, irregular forms around the rigid rectangles of the housing blocks.

Tundra lakes
Small lakes and ponds dot the surrounding tundra, appearing as scattered irregular shapes that contrast with the straight lines of the built-up area.
Industrial links
Roads, rail and pipelines connect the town to Norilsk and mining sites, cutting long lines across the otherwise open landscape.

Kayyerkan is remembered strongly by the people who lived and worked there, often through long winters and polar nights. A map of the town turns that experience into something quiet and lasting to hang wherever life led next.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with years spent in the north, and choose from five styles. A free 900 px preview is available, and the full $9 download has no watermark.
