Roads, rivers and older houses gather along the low ground between the hills, forming the main lines of the map and the oldest layer of settlement.

Kimokawa Map Poster & Print
Kimokawa lies in southeastern Hyōgo Prefecture, in the forested hill country that rises north of the densely built Osaka and Kobe plain. Here the metropolitan sprawl gives way to narrow valleys, rice fields and wooded ridges, and from above the map is shaped by those contours: older settlements along the valley floors and roads following the rivers between the hills.
Like much of this area, the landscape shows two layers. Traditional settlements sit in the valleys with irregular lanes, small shrines and paddy fields, while in the surrounding hills planned residential developments appear as neat, looping street patterns laid out for commuters to the cities to the south. On a black-and-white print the contrast between these two textures is clear and quietly striking.
A Kimokawa map poster suits people who grew up in the hills above the Kansai cities or who moved here for more space and greenery. Because the relief is expressed entirely through roads and rivers, the print has a natural, flowing structure, and a wider frame helps show the ridges and valleys that define daily routes to stations and schools.

Planned hillsides
In the wider area, residential estates on the slopes appear as tight, curving street loops and cul-de-sacs, a distinctive pattern of suburban Japan.
Forested ridges
Large empty areas on the map mark the wooded hills, giving the poster breathing room and outlining the valleys through contrast rather than detail.

The hills north of Osaka and Kobe are home to many families who commute to the cities and return each evening to quieter streets. A map of Kimokawa keeps that sense of retreat and makes a thoughtful gift for a new home.
