Abbey on the terrace
The monastery complex forms a dense, geometric block above the river, with courtyards and wings that stand out sharply against the finer grain of the surrounding town.

Klosterneuburg Map Poster & Print
Klosterneuburg lies directly north of Vienna, on the right bank of the Danube, and on a map the two almost touch. The town fills a strip of land between the river and the first ridges of the Vienna Woods, so its streets run along the water and then climb into side valleys that cut back into the forested hills.
At its centre stands Klosterneuburg Abbey, the Augustinian monastery founded in the early twelfth century under Margrave Leopold III, later Austria's patron saint. Its courtyards and domed buildings sit on a terrace above the river, and the older part of town gathers around them. The abbey is also known for the Verdun Altar, a celebrated work of medieval enamel.
A Klosterneuburg map poster captures this unusual balance of water, stone and forest. The Danube and its side channels give the lower edge a strong, sweeping line, the abbey grounds make a clear architectural block, and the thin roads winding up toward Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg fade into the open space of the woods.

Danube channels
The river runs along the town's eastern side with its side arms and riverside meadows, giving the poster a broad band of water and a long, gentle curve.
Vienna Woods valleys
Streets push inland along narrow valleys and then stop where the forest begins, so the map shows fingers of settlement reaching into a wide field of empty hillside.
