Basilica axis
The long, straight line from Boulevard Léopold II through Elisabeth Park to the basilica is the most striking element of the map, a piece of formal planning at city scale.

Koekelberg Map Poster & Print
Koekelberg is one of the smallest of the nineteen municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, a dense residential area northwest of the city centre. Its map is compact and closely built, with terraced streets set in short blocks and a few longer avenues cutting through them at angles. Almost every street is lined with houses, so the pattern is fine-grained and continuous.
The dominant feature is a single axis. Boulevard Léopold II runs toward the northwest and opens into Elisabeth Park, a long rectangle of lawns and tree-lined paths, which in turn ends at the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart. On paper the effect is formal and deliberate, a straight line of approach that reads clearly even at the smallest print size.
The basilica, begun under King Leopold II and completed in the twentieth century, is among the largest churches in the world, and its dome is visible across much of Brussels. A Koekelberg map poster frames that monumental plan together with the ordinary neighbourhood streets around it, the everyday city and its grand gesture on one sheet.

Elisabeth Park
A long green rectangle with symmetrical paths, the park fills the space in front of the basilica and gives the dense surrounding blocks an open centre.
Terraced blocks
Rows of townhouses on short, closely spaced streets cover the rest of the commune, creating an intricate texture typical of the older Brussels municipalities.

Koekelberg is where many Brussels residents first rented an apartment, went to school or crossed the park on the way to work. A map of the commune suits a narrow wall in a city flat. Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark your street or a date that mattered.
The formal axis looks especially strong in Noir and Blueprint, while Paper and Sand bring out the older, hand-drawn feel of the street pattern. Classic black and white is always a safe choice. Order the HD files for $9, including A3 and A2, or a printed poster with an optional frame.
