Komló Map Poster & Print
Komló lies in the Mecsek hills of southern Hungary, a short distance north of Pécs. It is one of the clearest examples of a town shaped by its terrain: instead of a single centre on flat ground, the built area runs along several narrow valleys. From above it looks like a branching shape, with streets and housing blocks filling the valley floors and wooded ridges in between.
The town grew rapidly in the 1950s as a coal-mining centre and was developed as a planned industrial settlement during the socialist period. That history is visible on the map in the long rows of apartment blocks and curving estate roads laid out along the contours. Older village cores remain as smaller, more irregular clusters within the larger plan.
A Komló map poster captures this unusual shape, a town that follows the land rather than overriding it. The forested hills appear as open space, so the settlement reads almost like a river system drawn in streets. It is a distinctive composition for anyone with ties to the town or to Hungary's mining heritage.

Planned estates
Mid-century housing estates line curving roads that follow the slopes. On the map they form repeated, rhythmic blocks that are easy to recognise from above.
Wooded ridges
Forested hills separate the valleys and surround the town, leaving wide empty areas that give the composition its open, sculptural quality.
