Lualaba River
The upper Congo flows past the town as a wide channel. It is the dominant feature of the map and the reason Kongolo grew up where it did.

Kongolo Map Poster & Print
Kongolo lies in Tanganyika Province, in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the Lualaba River, the upper course of the Congo. The river is the backbone of the map. It runs through the frame as a broad, strong line, with the town's streets spread over the land beside it and roads leading away into savanna and woodland.
Kongolo is a crossing point. A railway bridge carries the line over the Lualaba here, an important link in the country's eastern rail network. Not far from town, the river squeezes through a narrow gorge known as the Portes d'Enfer, the Gates of Hell, where the water breaks into rapids between steep rock walls.
A Kongolo map poster captures a town defined by a great river and the routes that cross it. In black and white, the contrast between the wide water and the fine network of streets is striking. The bridge, a thin line spanning the channel, gives the composition a quiet focal point.
