The river divides the town as it flows north into Vänern. Bridges link the two halves, and the river gives the poster a clear central axis.

Lidköping Map Poster & Print
Lidköping lies on the southern shore of Lake Vänern, Sweden's largest lake, where the river Lidan flows into the bay of Kinneviken. On a map the river runs north through the centre and the town spreads along both banks. The lake forms a wide, open edge to the north.
The two sides of the river have different histories. The old town lies on the east bank. The new town on the west was laid out in the seventeenth century under Count Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, with a large square and a regular street plan. Lidköping is also known for Rörstrand porcelain, and Läckö Castle stands on the Kållandsö peninsula to the north.
A Lidköping map poster shows this double structure clearly: the gridded new town, the older, more irregular streets across the river, the bridges between them and the harbour opening onto Vänern. Framed wider, the long shoreline and the bay give the print a calm horizon. Few Swedish towns show their growth so legibly in a single frame.

The new town grid
West of the river, the seventeenth-century new town follows a regular plan around a large square. Its orderly pattern contrasts with the older streets opposite.
Vänern shoreline
Lake Vänern forms the northern edge of the map, a broad open field of water that gives the composition a natural horizon line.
