Lisakovsk Map Poster & Print
Lisakovsk is in Kostanay region in northern Kazakhstan. It was founded in the Soviet era to work a large iron ore deposit nearby. Its map shows planned origins very clearly. There are rectangular microdistricts of apartment blocks, wide straight avenues, and a sharp edge where the town stops and the flat steppe begins.
The Tobol River flows past the town, and its winding channel is the one natural curve in an otherwise very geometric composition. The mining and processing areas lie outside the residential zone, as the town's planners intended. The large open-cast workings and industrial sites show up as big shapes separate from the living quarters.
A Lisakovsk map poster is an example of Soviet urban planning shown at its clearest: a town built from scratch around one industry, laid out on empty land in a rational pattern. For people who grew up among its blocks, the map is instantly familiar. For others, it is a striking graphic object on its own.

The Tobol River
The river winds past the town through the steppe. Its loose bends are the only irregular line in a highly regular composition.
Industrial zone
The ore-mining and processing sites lie separate from the housing. They show up as large, distinct shapes linked to the town by roads and rail.
