Madaya Map Poster & Print
Madaya lies north of Mandalay, on the flat, fertile plain along the eastern side of the Irrawaddy River. From above, the town is a modest grid of streets surrounded by rice fields, which spread out in small rectangular plots. Irrigation canals and channels cross the landscape in straight lines and give the whole area a structured, almost ruled appearance.
The land here has been farmed intensively for centuries, fed by canal systems that bring water across the dry zone of central Myanmar. On a map these channels are as important as the roads. They divide the plain into parcels, and villages cluster along them. The town acts as the local market and administrative centre for this agricultural area.
A Madaya map poster shows a town at the centre of a working landscape. The street grid sits in the middle, and the fields and canals radiate outward in fine, regular lines. In black and white the effect is calm and orderly, a picture of land shaped patiently around water.

Rice-field parcels
Small rectangular paddy plots cover the land around the town. Together they create a fine, even texture that frames the streets.
Irrawaddy plain
The town lies on the broad, flat plain east of the Irrawaddy. At wider scales the river's presence shapes the western edge of the composition.
