The rail line
The railroad slices diagonally across the city. It is the reason Manassas exists and still the clearest single line on the map.

Manassas Map Poster & Print
Manassas is an independent city in northern Virginia, and its map starts with the railroad. The tracks cut diagonally through the centre, and the historic downtown, Old Town Manassas, gathers around the depot in a compact grid of short blocks. Beyond it, the streets loosen into curving suburban roads and commercial strips typical of the outer Washington, D.C. region.
The town grew at a junction of two nineteenth-century railroads, and that strategic position drew both armies of the Civil War to the area. The First and Second Battles of Manassas, also known as Bull Run, were fought nearby. Today the rail line still carries commuter trains towards Washington from the Old Town station.
A Manassas map poster shows a place where transport shaped the town. The straight rail line, the tight historic core and the sprawling growth around them make a layered, readable composition. It suits long-time residents, history enthusiasts and anyone who has commuted along that line.

Old Town grid
Around the depot, a compact grid of short blocks forms the historic downtown, with a noticeably finer texture than the surrounding suburbs.
Suburban outskirts
Farther out, curving residential streets and wide commercial roads show the later growth that tied Manassas into the D.C. metro area.
