Meru Map Poster & Print
Meru lies on the northeastern slopes of Mount Kenya, just north of the equator. It is the main town of Meru County. On a map, the town centre is a compact group of streets around the market and main road. The surrounding land is divided by the streams that run down from the mountain, each cutting its own small valley.
The slopes around Meru are farmed intensively. Tea, coffee and miraa, the stimulant leaf also called khat, grow here, and much of the local economy depends on them. From above, farm roads follow the ridges between the valleys, a branching pattern that points back toward the peak.
East of the town the land falls toward the drier country around Meru National Park, known in part as the setting of the Born Free story of Joy and George Adamson. A Meru map poster focuses on the town and its highland setting, a place shaped by the mountain above it.

Stream valleys
Streams flowing from Mount Kenya cut across the area and separate the ridges. The roads between them follow a natural branching pattern.
Farm ridges
On the slopes around town, farm roads run along the ridges, a sign of the tea, coffee and miraa farming that supports the county.
