Michelstadt Map Poster & Print
Michelstadt lies in the Mümling valley, in the Odenwald hills of southern Hesse. It is best known for its half-timbered town hall from 1484, which stands on stilts over an open ground floor in the market square. It is one of the most photographed buildings in Germany. Around it, the old town keeps its tight, irregular street plan, with many timber-framed houses still standing.
On a map, the old town is a compact oval of narrow lanes, marking the line of its former walls. The Mümling and the railway run through the valley on a north–south line, and newer districts extend along them. Wooded slopes rise on both sides, so the built-up area stays long and narrow. It is a classic valley town shape.
A Michelstadt map poster suits visitors who remember the Christmas market or the town hall, and families from the Odenwald. The dense medieval centre, the river and the long valley make a composition that is detailed at the core and calm at the edges.
