Minas de Marcona Map Poster & Print
Minas de Marcona lies on the southern coast of Peru's Ica region, around the town and port of San Juan de Marcona. It is one of the driest landscapes in the Americas, where the coastal desert meets the Pacific. On a map, the town appears as a planned, regular grid of streets set in a wide, almost completely bare landscape.
The settlement exists because of iron ore. The Marcona deposits are among the most important in Peru, and the town was built to house the workers of the mine and the port that ships the ore. That planned origin shows in the plan: tidy blocks, straight streets and a clear separation between housing, industry and the harbour.
A Minas de Marcona map poster combines two things rarely seen together: an ordered company town and a raw desert coastline. The irregular line of the Pacific shore and the empty hills contrast sharply with the neat grid, making a striking print.

Pacific coastline
The ragged desert shore, with its points and small bays, forms one edge of the map. Its irregular line contrasts with the neat streets.
Mining landscape
Industrial sites, port facilities and access roads spread across the surrounding desert. They show how closely the town is tied to the iron ore.
