Momil Map Poster & Print
Momil lies in the Córdoba department of northern Colombia, in the flat lowlands of the lower Sinú River. The town sits close to the Ciénaga Grande de Lorica, a large wetland system of lagoons, marshes and seasonal waters, and from above the land around it is a mix of pasture, farmland and watery shapes.
The name is well known to archaeologists. Excavations near the town in the mid-twentieth century uncovered pottery and other remains from a pre-Columbian culture now called Momil, which has become an important reference point in the study of early settlement along the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
A Momil map poster shows a compact town grid set against the irregular outlines of the wetlands. The contrast between the orderly streets and the soft, spreading shapes of water gives the composition an unusual balance, and it reflects a place where people have lived beside these lowland waters for a very long time.
