Muscatine Map Poster & Print
Muscatine sits on the Mississippi in eastern Iowa, where the river swings around a wide bend and briefly flows west. The downtown grid starts near the riverfront and climbs toward the bluffs, and newer neighbourhoods spread across the upland behind them. To the south, the flat bottomland known locally as Muscatine Island is covered in fields.
The town was once known as the Pearl Button Capital of the World, when factories cut buttons from freshwater mussel shells taken from the river. Mark Twain lived here briefly and later wrote about its summer sunsets. The area is also known for its melons, grown in the sandy soil near the river.
A Muscatine map poster uses the broad river as a natural frame. The water fills one edge of the print, the bridge crosses to Illinois, and the grid meets the uneven bluffs. It suits people from the town, lovers of river history and anyone who has watched the evening light over the Mississippi.

Downtown streets rise in a regular pattern from the riverfront. They meet the curves and slopes of the bluffs, where the grid bends and breaks.
Muscatine Island farmland
South of the town the flat bottomland stretches out in large fields, known for melons and marked by long straight farm roads.
