Nampundwe is a town in Zambia's Central Province, west of the capital, Lusaka. It grew up around a mine that has been part of the country's mining industry, and its layout reflects that origin. It is a planned settlement of residential streets and service roads, surrounded by wide stretches of bush and farmland. On a map, it appears as a small, self-contained cluster in open country.
Mining towns like this often have a more regular pattern than older settlements, with housing laid out in rows along straight or gently curving roads.
