Onalaska Map Poster & Print
Onalaska sits on the east bank of the Mississippi River in western Wisconsin, directly north of La Crosse. Its map is shaped by Lake Onalaska, a wide pool of the Mississippi formed by a lock and dam, which spreads west of the city as a maze of open water, islands and backwater channels.
Behind the city rise the steep bluffs and valleys of the Driftless Area, a region untouched by the last glaciers. Neighbourhoods fill the level ground between the river and the hills, while the Black River joins from the north. The Great River State Trail, a long rail-trail, starts in Onalaska.
An Onalaska map poster balances the orderly streets of the city with the intricate edges of the river and its islands. It is a map where water takes up as much of the page as land, which gives it a particularly striking composition.

Driftless bluffs
East of town the land climbs into steep bluffs and coulees, a landscape spared by glaciers that gives the region its distinctive folded terrain.
Great River Trail
The Great River State Trail begins in Onalaska and follows a former rail line north along the Mississippi, a long, straight line through the wetlands.
