Organic lane network
Streets branch and curve without a single governing grid. On the poster this produces a dense, lace-like centre that rewards close viewing and looks different from almost any Western town plan.

Phaphūnd Map Poster & Print
Phaphūnd lies in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, in the Doab, the fertile land between the Ganga and the Yamuna. The surrounding country is almost completely flat and intensively farmed. From above, the town is a tight knot of narrow lanes and closely spaced buildings, with roads running out to nearby villages across a landscape of small, irregular fields.
Like many towns on the plain, Phaphūnd grew organically rather than to a plan. Its lanes bend, split and meet at odd angles, and its older core is densest in the middle, thinning into looser housing at the edges. Ponds and small water tanks, common in this part of India, sometimes show up as pale shapes among the streets.
A Phaphūnd map poster turns that informal pattern into a finely detailed image. Without a coastline or a major river crossing the frame, the drawing depends on the texture of the streets themselves, which gives it an intimate, handmade feel that is quite different from a planned city grid.

Doab farmland
Level, cultivated land surrounds the town on every side. Field tracks and minor roads spread outward, forming a light web that frames the darker built-up core.
Roads to nearby villages
Several routes leave the town toward surrounding settlements. On the map they read as threads tying Phaphūnd to its rural hinterland, which is typical of market towns in the region.
