Two-river confluence
The Moldova River comes in from the northwest and joins the Siret nearby. Their wide, braided channels give the map a soft, irregular edge, unlike the straighter lines of the streets.

Roman is in Neamț County in northeastern Romania, close to the point where the Moldova River flows into the Siret. From above, the town sits on raised ground beside wide, braided river channels, and the floodplain leaves an open band of green along its edges. The main streets run roughly parallel to the valley, and the railway and regional roads follow the same corridor through the lowland.
The town takes its name from Roman I, the Moldavian prince under whom it was first recorded at the end of the fourteenth century. It has long been a religious centre as the seat of one of the oldest Orthodox bishoprics in Moldavia. Its compact historic core, with churches and a central square, stands apart from the later housing districts that spread outward.
A Roman map poster captures that contrast in line alone. The older streets gather closely near the centre, apartment districts show up as larger, more regular blocks, and the rivers trace their loose, shifting channels past the town. It is a portrait of a crossroads town shaped by water on more than one side.

Historic centre
Around the central area, a denser weave of short streets and small blocks marks the oldest part of town, where the bishopric's churches and the main civic buildings stand.
Rail and road corridor
The railway and main roads run along the valley beside the town. They draw long, steady lines that link Roman to Bacău in the south and Suceava in the north.

Many people pass through Roman on the way north or south, and for those who grew up there that familiarity gives its plan meaning. The confluence, the old centre and the housing districts together make a recognisable map for a hallway or study, or a gift for family abroad.
