Rustenburg Map Poster & Print
Rustenburg lies in South Africa's North West province at the western end of the Magaliesberg range. On a map the town centre forms a regular grid on the plain, and the mountains rise immediately to the south, creating a strong natural edge. Beyond the town, roads lead toward the Pilanesberg area and the mining settlements scattered across the surrounding bushveld.
The region sits on the Bushveld Complex, which holds the world's largest known reserves of platinum group metals, and the mines around Rustenburg are among the most productive anywhere. Their shafts, processing plants and tailings dams cover large areas of land. On the map they appear as extensive shapes quite unlike the town's residential blocks.
A Rustenburg map poster brings together three distinct textures. There is the orderly grid of the centre, the scattered townships and mining villages beyond it, and the open ground of the ridges and reserves. The Kgaswane Mountain Reserve on the Magaliesberg slopes leaves a quiet empty area on the southern side and gives the composition a firm natural boundary.

Town centre grid
The historic core follows a straightforward rectangular plan, with evenly spaced streets that make a neat, orderly block at the centre of the map.
Mining landscape
Platinum mines, plants and tailings dams spread across the land beyond the town. Their large irregular shapes set Rustenburg apart from other South African cities.
