Paddy field geometry
Rice fields are divided into regular rectangles. Seen from above, they form a soft grid of parallel lines across the flat ground, the most orderly pattern on the sheet.

Ryōgoku Map Poster & Print
This Ryōgoku lies in the countryside of northern Chiba Prefecture, far from the Tokyo district that shares its name. The map shows a working rural landscape: rectangular paddy fields laid out in careful blocks, narrow roads following the higher ground, and houses gathered in small clusters beside wooded slopes.
The Chiba lowlands are some of the flattest land around the capital, and generations of rice farming have given them a geometry of their own. Field boundaries run in straight parallel lines, and irrigation channels cut across them. Older settlement paths, by contrast, curve along the edges of the terraces and groves. The two patterns overlap without quite lining up.
A Ryōgoku map poster turns that quiet farmland into an abstract composition. The rectilinear fields and loose, organic roads sit side by side, with clear empty space between the house clusters. It is a restrained image, closer to a drawing of land use than a city plan.

Winding village roads
Older roads follow the edges of low rises and groves rather than the field grid. Their gentle curves cut across the straight lines and give the map some variation.
Scattered settlements
Houses gather in small hamlets instead of a single dense centre. On the poster they read as islands of finer detail within the wide agricultural pattern.
