Reversing Falls
At the narrow gorge, Fundy tides meet the outflowing river. On the map, the pinched channel and the bridges above it form one of the city's most recognisable shapes.

Saint John Map Poster & Print
Saint John is Canada's oldest incorporated city, chartered in 1785 after Loyalist settlers arrived at the mouth of the Saint John River. Its uptown sits on a compact peninsula between the harbour and Courtenay Bay. A tight grid of streets climbs from the waterfront up the slopes, with King's Square near its centre. On a map the peninsula reads as a dense, well-defined block surrounded by water.
West of uptown, the river squeezes through a rocky gorge before entering the harbour. There the Bay of Fundy's enormous tides push against the current and, at high water, briefly reverse it, which is how the Reversing Falls got their name. Bridges cross the harbour and the gorge, and the West Side continues on the far bank.
North of the centre, Rockwood Park is one of the largest urban parks in Canada, with lakes, trails and wooded hills inside the city limits. A Saint John map poster shows how these parts fit together: the gridded peninsula, the winding river gorge, the harbour crossings and the large green block of parkland to the north.

Uptown peninsula
A compact grid covers the peninsula between the harbour and Courtenay Bay. Its steep streets are among the oldest in the country's urban history.
Rockwood Park
A large expanse of lakes and wooded hills just north of uptown. In print it appears as a broad, quiet area that balances the density of the centre.
