Saint Martin Map Poster & Print
Saint Martin is a small island in the northeastern Caribbean, shared by two nations: the French Collectivity of Saint-Martin in the north and Sint Maarten, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in the south. The border runs across the island from west to east. It is often described as the smallest inhabited island divided between two sovereign states.
The map is organised around water. Simpson Bay Lagoon, one of the largest inland lagoons in the Caribbean, fills the western lowlands and is shared by both sides. Marigot, the French capital, lies near its northern edge, while Philipsburg, the Dutch capital, sits on a narrow strip between Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond. On a Saint Martin map poster these shapes dominate the composition.
Hills rise through the island's centre, with Pic Paradis the highest point on the French side. Princess Juliana International Airport lies on the Dutch side beside Maho Beach, where aircraft pass low over the sand on landing. The border itself dates back to a 1648 agreement between the two powers, and it can be crossed freely.
