Sand Springs Map Poster & Print
Sand Springs sits on the north bank of the Arkansas River, just west of Tulsa. From above, the town is a long band of streets following the river, with an older grid near the historic centre and newer subdivisions spreading into the wooded hills to the north. The river itself is broad and braided, with sandbars and islands that show up clearly on the map.
The town was founded in the early twentieth century by the oil businessman and philanthropist Charles Page. He established a home for orphaned children here and built much of the early town around that mission, including land set aside for widows and their families. Further west, the Arkansas River widens into Keystone Lake, and the Keystone Expressway links Sand Springs to downtown Tulsa.
A Sand Springs map poster traces the town's close relationship with the river. The straight lines of the highway and the older grid sit beside the loose, braided channel, and the hills to the north break the pattern with curving residential roads. It suits long-time residents, commuters who have made a home just outside Tulsa and anyone who knows the river well.

Charles Page's town
The older grid near the centre dates from Charles Page's founding era, when the town grew around his children's home and charitable projects.
Hills to the north
North of the centre, curving streets and cul-de-sacs climb into wooded hills, contrasting with the flatter grid along the river.
