Santa Lucía de Tirajana lies in the southeast of Gran Canaria. It is a long municipality that runs from the island's mountainous interior down to the Atlantic coast. The map changes sharply along the way: a few winding roads and small villages in the uplands, then a dense, regular street network on the flat coastal plain, where most of its residents live.
Much of the population lives in the coastal town of Vecindario, which grew quickly in the late twentieth century along the island's main north–south motorway. Inland, the landscape is shaped by the Tirajana ravine, a large erosion basin of cliffs and slopes. The old village of Santa Lucía, the municipal seat, sits high up among palms and rocky ridges.
