Canal ring
The curved canals marking the old fortifications wrap around the historic centre, giving the core an almost oval outline that stands out sharply against the straighter streets beyond it.

Schiedam sits on the north bank of the Nieuwe Maas, directly west of Rotterdam, where the small river Schie once flowed into the larger waterway. From above, the historic core is a compact knot of canals and quays. Narrow streets run between the water channels, and wider harbour basins open to the south towards the river and the port.
The town's name and fortune came from that river mouth. For centuries Schiedam was the centre of Dutch jenever distilling, and the malt wine trade needed grain mills. Several tall traditional windmills still stand along the former ramparts. They are among the tallest classic windmills in the world, built high so their sails could catch wind above the surrounding warehouses.
A Schiedam map poster shows how tightly the old town is enclosed. Curving canals trace the line of the former fortifications, post-war neighbourhoods spread north in regular blocks, and the river frontage fills with docks, slipways and industrial piers. In black and white, the pattern of water against land becomes the main subject, and the town reads clearly as a separate place from its larger neighbour.

Mills on the ramparts
The distillery-era windmills stand along the edge of the old town, following the former defensive line. On the map their position traces the boundary between the medieval core and later growth.
Nieuwe Maas waterfront
To the south, harbour basins and quays cut into the riverbank at regular angles, a working edge of piers and docks that links Schiedam to the wider Rotterdam port.

අර්ථයක් ඇති සිතියමක්
People hang Schiedam for the canals they walked along, a flat above an old distillery, or family ties to a town often overshadowed by Rotterdam. The map gives it its own frame, with its own waterways and its own skyline of mill sails implied in the street pattern.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a street name and the year you moved in. Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
