The main line
The railway runs through the centre as a firm, straight stroke. It is the spine from which almost every street in the town takes its direction.

Shakhun’ya Map Poster & Print
Shakhun’ya grew up around a station on the railway that runs east from Nizhny Novgorod toward Kirov, and its map still shows that origin plainly. The line cuts straight through the town. The streets are arranged on either side of it in a loose grid of low houses, yards and gardens.
Around the town lies the dense forest typical of the northern part of the oblast, broken by clearings, small rivers and scattered villages. The railway made Shakhun’ya a hub for the forest country around it, and the town remains the administrative centre for the surrounding area and the villages that depend on it.
A Shakhun’ya map poster shows how completely one piece of infrastructure can organise a town: the rail corridor, its sidings and crossings, and the residential blocks that followed. In the Blueprint style the effect is almost technical, while Paper gives it the feel of an old survey sheet.

Grid of yards
Residential streets form a regular pattern of small blocks, many filled with detached houses and garden plots that give the map an even, fine texture.
Forest margin
At the edges the street network stops abruptly against woodland, leaving wide open space that frames the town like a clearing on the page.

People keep strong ties to the railway towns they grew up in, and many have since moved to larger cities. A map of Shakhun’ya keeps the streets of home, the station and the familiar walk there in view.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, so the poster can carry a family name, a year or a short dedication. Choose from five styles, download the $9 HD files to print at home, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
