Town on the hills
Siuna's streets adapt to the rolling ground, bending around slopes instead of forming a strict grid. This gives the centre an organic, irregular shape.

Siuna Map Poster & Print
Siuna lies in the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region of Nicaragua, far inland from the sea, in a landscape of low hills, rivers and tropical forest. On a map, the town is an irregular cluster of streets that follows the terrain. A few roads lead out through the surrounding green toward other settlements in the region.
Siuna grew as a gold-mining town and, with Rosita and Bonanza, forms what Nicaraguans call the Mining Triangle. It is also one of the gateways to the Bosawás Biosphere Reserve, one of the largest areas of tropical forest in Central America, which stretches to the north.
A Siuna map poster shows a town set down in a vast forested interior. The streets gather tightly at the centre and loosen toward the edges, and the rivers and roads beyond them are the only other lines on the frame. The map conveys how remote and self-contained this part of Nicaragua is.

Mining heritage
The town grew around gold mining, and it is one corner of the Mining Triangle it forms with Rosita and Bonanza in northeastern Nicaragua.
Forest roads
Only a few roads leave town through the surrounding forest and hills. They are thin, winding lines that connect Siuna to the rest of the Caribbean region.
