Shifting grids
Neighbourhoods here are laid out in small grids that do not quite line up. The street pattern changes angle across the map and records how the town grew piece by piece.

Tres de Mayo Map Poster & Print
Tres de Mayo lies just south of Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos, part of the ring of communities that has grown up around the state capital. On the map it appears as a tightly packed network of streets. Most are short blocks in rough grids, and the grids change direction from one neighbourhood to the next as the town has expanded along its main roads.
The name refers to the third of May, a date best known in Mexico as the Day of the Holy Cross. The setting is warm and fertile. The mountains around the Valley of Mexico rise to the north, and the lower land of Morelos opens out to the south. Ravines cut through the landscape here, and they often mark the edges of the built-up area.
A Tres de Mayo map poster shows a town in the middle of becoming a city, its irregular grids meeting and colliding in a way that feels lived-in. In black and white the density of streets gives the print a strong, textured centre, softened by open land at the edges. It suits anyone whose family story is rooted in this part of Morelos.

Main road spine
Principal roads connect Tres de Mayo to Cuernavaca and the surrounding towns. They form the longest, straightest lines on the poster and anchor the denser blocks around them.
Ravines at the edge
Barrancas, the steep ravines typical of this part of Morelos, interrupt the streets. They appear as winding gaps where the grid simply stops.
