Tucson Map Poster & Print
Tucson spreads across a wide desert basin in southern Arizona, surrounded by mountains: the Santa Catalinas to the north, the Rincons to the east, the Santa Ritas to the south and the Tucson Mountains to the west. The city is organised by a grid of major roads about a mile apart. Neighbourhoods fill each square, and development thins out toward the foothills.
Tucson is one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas in North America, and people have farmed near Sentinel Peak, known locally as A Mountain, for a very long time. Saguaro National Park protects giant cacti on both the east and west sides of the city. In 2015 Tucson became the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in the United States.
A Tucson map poster reveals the logic of a desert city. It shows the square-mile grid, the University of Arizona campus near downtown, and the sandy beds of the Santa Cruz and Rillito rivers, which are dry for much of the year. The large open field of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, with its aircraft storage yard, also stands out.

Dry riverbeds
The Santa Cruz and Rillito rivers cross the city as broad sandy washes lined with paths, and they appear as long, flowing lines through the grid.
Mountain edges
In the foothills of the Santa Catalinas to the north, the grid breaks into winding roads and cul-de-sacs, marking where the city meets the mountains.
