Vatomandry Map Poster & Print
Vatomandry lies on the east coast of Madagascar, in the Atsinanana region south of Toamasina. The town sits on a narrow strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the lagoons and waterways of the Pangalanes canal, which runs for hundreds of kilometres along this coast. On the map, it is framed by water on both sides.
The coast here is long, straight and sandy, exposed to the open ocean, while the inland side is a quieter world of lagoons, channels and river mouths. The town's streets fill the space between them in a modest grid. Vatomandry is known as the birthplace of Didier Ratsiraka, a former president of Madagascar.
A Vatomandry map poster is shaped by these parallel lines of water: the ocean edge, the strip of streets, and the winding lagoons behind. It is an unusual and elegant composition, strongly horizontal, and it looks especially striking in styles that emphasise the contrast between land and water.

Pangalanes lagoons
Behind the town lie the lagoons and channels of the Pangalanes canal, a chain of waterways running along Madagascar's east coast.
Narrow town strip
The streets fill a narrow band of land between ocean and lagoon, giving Vatomandry a slim, elongated shape on the poster.
