The Weser crossing
The river runs diagonally across the map, and the bridge is the one fixed point where the two banks meet. Nearly every main road in town leads toward it.

Vlotho Map Poster & Print
Vlotho lies on the Weser in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, where the river passes through the hills of the Weserbergland. From above, the Weser is the dominant line. It crosses the sheet in a broad band, and the town's streets gather on its bank before climbing into the surrounding high ground. A single bridge links the two sides.
A castle hill rises above the town, where the ruins of the medieval fortress still stand. The town grew as a river crossing and small trading place between Westphalia and Lippe. Its compact centre still sits close to the water, with the newer residential districts spreading onto the slopes and side valleys behind it.
A Vlotho map poster works because the river and the hills make the arrangement so clear. There is a wide stroke of water, a knot of streets at the crossing, and lighter roads that follow the valleys outward. The map reads both as a portrait of the town and as a study of a river landscape in northern Germany.

Castle hill
Above the centre, the streets stop where the hill with the old fortress site rises. The result is a noticeable empty space on the map, surrounded by a curve of houses.
Side-valley streets
Residential roads run up the small valleys that feed the Weser. They form branching fingers that show how the town has grown into the hills.
