Each residential section forms a distinct cell of curving streets, so the whole township reads as a set of rounded units joined by arterial roads.

Willingboro Map Poster & Print
Willingboro is a township in Burlington County, New Jersey, a short distance from the Delaware River and across from the Philadelphia area. It was developed from 1958 by Levitt and Sons as the third Levittown and took back the name Willingboro in 1963. From above it is one of the clearest examples of planned postwar suburbia anywhere on the East Coast.
The township is divided into residential sections called parks, each a self-contained pocket of curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs, often with street names beginning with the same letter. Arterial roads frame these sections, and schools, pools and parkland occupy their centres. On a map, the result is a pattern of rounded cells that looks almost botanical.
Rancocas Creek forms part of the township's edge, adding a winding natural line to the composition. A Willingboro map poster shows mid-century planning at its most legible, with every loop and cul-de-sac laid out exactly as it was designed.

Loops and cul-de-sacs
Streets rarely run straight for long, curling into loops and dead ends that make the print intricate and unmistakably suburban.
Rancocas Creek edge
The creek winds along the township's border, a natural counterpoint to the highly designed street pattern within.

People who grew up in one of Willingboro's parks can usually find their own street at once, and the plan will also interest anyone curious about architecture or suburban history. Few maps show postwar planning so clearly.
