Aalten Map Poster & Print
Aalten is in the Achterhoek, the eastern corner of Gelderland, only a few kilometres from the German border. On a map it is compact and rounded. A small historic centre is surrounded by later residential neighbourhoods, and all around it lies a patchwork of fields, hedgerows and farmsteads. Country lanes spread out in every direction, giving the town a star-shaped outline against the open land.
The municipality also includes Bredevoort, a small fortified town known in the Netherlands as a book town, with many second-hand bookshops. The landscape between the two is typical of the Achterhoek: small-scale and green, with narrow roads and wooded plots. It looks very different from the long straight polders of the western Netherlands.
An Aalten map poster frames the town at the centre of this network of lanes. The dense core in the middle gives way to a looser pattern of houses, then to fields. It suits people from the Achterhoek or those who have family on either side of the nearby border. The map reads calmly and has plenty of detail.

Achterhoek patchwork
Small fields, hedgerows and scattered woods surround the town. This makes a finer, more irregular landscape than the open polders further west in the Netherlands.
Near the border
The German border is only a short distance away. A wider frame shows how closely this corner of Gelderland is tied to the landscape across the line.
