Albacete stands on the open plain of La Mancha, with no river valley or hillside to bend its streets. The result is a city that expands evenly in every direction, its centre a web of older lanes around the cathedral, surrounded by wide avenues and orderly blocks. The most striking shape is the Recinto Ferial, the fairground built for the September fair.
