Fox River
The river runs through the middle of the village in a gently curving band. It divides the map into two parts and gives it a strong natural spine.

Algonquin Map Poster & Print
Algonquin lies on the Fox River in northern Illinois, at the edge of the Chicago metropolitan area, and the river is the center of its map. The historic downtown sits near the river crossing. The land rises on both sides into bluffs where newer neighborhoods spread across what was once farmland.
The village straddles McHenry and Kane counties, and its growth follows the major roads that cross the river valley. The older streets near the water are short and irregular. The later subdivisions form larger patches of curving streets and cul-de-sacs, with parks and open space along the ravines.
An Algonquin map poster uses the river as its organising line. The Fox runs north to south through the sheet, bridges cross it, and the street network builds up on each bank. The composition is balanced and easy to read, and it suits anyone who knows the village from the river or from the roads.

Historic downtown
The older commercial streets sit close to the river crossing. Their small, irregular blocks contrast with the wider layouts of the later neighborhoods.
Bluff neighborhoods
Subdivisions on the higher ground on both sides show loops and cul-de-sacs, separated by ravines and parkland that run down toward the river.
