Araioses Map Poster & Print
Araioses lies in the far east of Maranhão, close to the border with Piauí and within the landscape of the Parnaíba River delta. On a wider map the setting is unmistakable: the river breaks into a web of channels, islands and mangrove edges as it approaches the Atlantic.
The town itself is compact, a modest grid of streets set on the mainland beside this watery maze. Roads lead out into the surrounding countryside, while the delta to the north and east turns the frame into an intricate pattern of land and water.
The Parnaíba delta is one of the few open-sea deltas in the Americas, and its many islands give this part of the coast a character quite unlike the long straight beaches elsewhere in northern Brazil. A Araioses map poster shows a small town at the doorstep of that tangled, shifting geography.

Compact town grid
The town's streets form a small, orderly grid on the mainland, a clear contrast with the irregular shapes of the delta beside it.
State border
Araioses sits near the line between Maranhão and Piauí, where the delta's waterways shape the frontier between the two states.
