Argungu Map Poster & Print
Argungu lies in Kebbi State in the far northwest of Nigeria, in the Sahelian savanna near the Sokoto-Rima river system. The town is best known for the Argungu Fishing Festival, a long-standing event where thousands of fishermen enter the river together with hand nets and gourds. It is also the seat of a traditional emirate, and the town's layout reflects that history.
Seen from above, Argungu is a dense cluster of compounds and narrow lanes set against a much larger landscape of water and farmland. River channels, pools and floodplain fields surround the settlement, changing with the seasons. A few main roads leave the centre and run across the flat country towards Birnin Kebbi and Sokoto.
An Argungu map poster shows that close relationship between town and water: the tight street pattern on dry ground and the looser lines of channels and fields beyond it. The print stays simple, and the river is the clearest feature on it, which suits a place whose best-known event takes place entirely on the water.
