Beliatta lies in the Hambantota District of Sri Lanka's Southern Province, a short way inland from the coast near Tangalle. It is a local market and transport centre, and the map shows that role clearly. Several roads meet in the town, and the densest cluster of buildings sits around that junction, with streets thinning out quickly in every direction.
The surrounding land is low and green. Paddy fields, coconut plantations and small streams fill much of the frame, and scattered houses follow the roads in long, loose lines. There is no grand plan here, just the gradual pattern of a rural town that has grown along the routes connecting it to the coast and the interior.
