Benalmádena is really three places on one map. Benalmádena Pueblo, the old village, sits up on the hillside; Arroyo de la Miel spreads across the middle ground as the busier town centre; and Benalmádena Costa runs along the Mediterranean shore. Between them, roads climb and loop across the slopes, and the coastal highway cuts a long line parallel to the beach.
The coast is anchored by Puerto Marina, a marina known for its stacked, irregular architecture and its island-like blocks set in the water. On a hill above town stands the Benalmádena Stupa, often described as the largest Buddhist stupa in the Western world, and a cable car climbs from Arroyo de la Miel to the summit of Monte Calamorro, with views across the Bay of Málaga.
