Village street pattern
Irregular lanes lined with detached houses keep the outline of the former village and contrast clearly with the geometric housing estates around it.

Bortnychi Map Poster & Print
Bortnychi is a historic neighbourhood in the southeast of Kyiv, on the left bank of the Dnipro in Darnytskyi district. It was a village for centuries before the growing city took it in. The map still shows this. Narrow residential streets of private houses wind among small bodies of water, which is very different from the long, straight blocks of the Soviet-era housing districts nearby.
The land here is low and flat, part of the wide floodplain on the eastern side of the river. Lakes and drainage channels show up as pale shapes among the streets. Toward the city edge the built-up area gives way to fields and industrial sites. Bortnychi is widely known in Kyiv as home to the Bortnychi aeration station, the city's main wastewater treatment plant.
A Bortnychi map poster records the texture of old village Kyiv inside the modern city. The lanes curve and fork where the newer districts use straight grids, and the water bodies break up the pattern. For people who grew up here or still live in one of its houses, the print is a precise and personal picture of a part of the capital that tourists rarely see.

Ponds and lakes
Scattered water bodies across the low-lying land create soft, open shapes that break up the dense residential fabric.
Left-bank floodplain
The flat terrain east of the Dnipro gives the district a wide, open layout with fields and channels at its outer edges.

Zakaj Bortnychi
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
For Kyivans with roots on the left bank, Bortnychi means home in a specific way: a courtyard, a lane, a pond at the end of the street. A map of it is a quiet way to keep that place close, especially for those now living far away.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family name or a year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download 300 DPI PNG and PDF files in six sizes for $9, or order a matte print.
