Brownsburg is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, a short drive west of Indianapolis. Its map tells the story of Midwestern suburban growth in two layers. At the centre, a small grid of older streets gathers around the historic main road. Around it, newer subdivisions spread outward, with curving streets and cul-de-sacs laid out on what were once flat, square farm fields.
White Lick Creek winds through the area on a roughly north–south course, and its wooded banks form a green seam that the grid has to work around. Section-line roads at regular intervals still frame the whole scene, so even the newest neighbourhoods sit inside the old survey pattern. Interstate 74 runs along the southern side of town, a firm diagonal stroke across the map. The creek meanders across the landscape, its banks lined with trees and parkland. Its irregular path breaks through the straight survey roads and adds a natural curve.
