Bugiri is a district town in Uganda's Eastern Region, between Jinja and the Kenyan border. The main road east runs straight through it, so the map is organised along that one strong line. Shops, markets and fuel stations crowd the roadside, while side streets branch off into residential areas behind them.
The land around the town is a green patchwork of small farms, papyrus-lined wetlands and scattered homesteads, and Lake Victoria lies a little way to the south. On a detailed plan the wetlands appear as soft, irregular shapes cutting between the roads, which breaks up the grid and gives the edges of town an organic look.
