Burnham-on-Sea is a seaside town on the Somerset coast, at the edge of Bridgwater Bay. On the map its most striking feature is the shoreline: a long, straight esplanade facing an enormous area of sand and mud exposed at low tide. The bay has one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, so the water's edge moves a long way.
To the south, the River Parrett and the River Brue meet the sea at an estuary with winding channels and marsh. The town's best-known landmark is the Low Lighthouse, a small white wooden structure raised on legs on the beach. Just inland, the tower of the parish church is known for its noticeable lean.
