Grand Canal bends
The historic canal loops through the city in broad curves, the one irregular line in an otherwise ruled layout, and the natural focal point of the map.

Cangzhou Map Poster & Print
Cangzhou lies in south-eastern Hebei, on the flat North China Plain between Beijing, Tianjin and the Bohai coast. The land is so level that almost every feature on the map is man-made: broad avenues, rail lines, rectangular city blocks and the long, curving course of the Grand Canal, which passes directly through the urban area on its way north toward Tianjin.
The canal is the city's most distinctive line. Where roads and neighbourhoods follow a strict orthogonal plan, the waterway meanders in wide, gentle bends, with parks and promenades along its banks. Since 2014 the Grand Canal has been a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Cangzhou's stretch is one of the longest held by any single city along its route.
The city is also known across China as a home of traditional martial arts, and for the Iron Lion of Cangzhou, a large cast-iron sculpture from the tenth century that stands south-east of the city. A Cangzhou map poster shows a plain, orderly city given a single graceful curve, the canal winding through it as it has for centuries.

Orthogonal grid
Wide avenues cross at right angles across the flat plain, dividing the city into large regular blocks that give the map a calm, structured base.
Canal-side parks
Green spaces and promenades follow the waterway through the centre, a continuous ribbon along both banks that thickens the canal's line and links neighbourhoods.
