Chahe Map Poster & Print
Chahe is a town in the Xuzhou area of northern Jiangsu, in the wide, flat country where the North China Plain meets the lowlands of the lower Huai basin. This is productive farmland. From above, the landscape is organised by a dense network of drainage and irrigation channels, straight rural roads and small villages spaced evenly across the fields.
The town itself forms a compact built-up area at the meeting point of several roads. Its streets are more regular than those of an old walled town, with larger blocks and a clear main axis. Beyond the edge, the pattern changes quickly to long, parallel field strips. Village clusters sit along the roads and waterways like beads on a string.
A Chahe map poster captures the geometry of the northern Jiangsu plain. The town is a dense square of detail in the middle, and around it lies a fabric of straight lines, channels and small settlements that fills the sheet evenly. The result is calm and rhythmic, quite different from the hills and coastlines that make up most map posters.

Channels and field lines

Villages along the roads
Small village clusters sit at regular intervals along rural roads and waterways, forming a dotted pattern that extends to the edges of the map.
