On the map, the Chanthaburi River bends through the town, and the historic Chanthaboon waterfront follows its western bank as a long, narrow strip of shophouses. Across the river from the old quarter stands the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the largest Catholic church in Thailand, built by a community with roots among Vietnamese Catholics.
