Columbine Map Poster & Print
Columbine is a suburban community southwest of Denver that spans parts of Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. It is not an incorporated city. It is a census-designated place, and its identity comes from its neighbourhoods and schools more than from a downtown. On a map it reads as classic late twentieth-century suburbia, with gently curving residential streets, loops and cul-de-sacs set between straighter arterial roads.
The community takes its name from the columbine, the flower Colorado adopted as its state symbol. The foothills of the Rockies rise a short distance to the west, and the South Platte River corridor runs to the east. Large parks, playing fields and greenways break up the housing, and on the map they appear as open, calm spaces.
A Columbine map poster shows a pattern that is most easily seen from above: arterial roads marking out a rough grid of large squares, each filled with a finer, swirling network of residential streets. In black and white that interplay of straight frame and curved infill becomes something close to a textile design. It is a personal record of a very ordinary kind of home.

Curving neighbourhood streets
Within each section, residential streets bend, loop and end in cul-de-sacs, creating the flowing patterns typical of Front Range suburbs.
Parks and open space
Wide parks, school grounds and greenbelts leave generous blank areas on the poster, balancing the dense line work of the housing.
